Teaching and training are a big part of why I love my work!
It's exciting, invigorating and inspiring to share ideas with people in the helping field.
My work with the Hincks-Dellcrest center includes the year-long (30 week) advance externship in Narrative Therapy, as well as day-long workshops throughout the year.

Undermining the Habits of Low Self-Esteem-March 16, 2012
The problem of 'low self-esteem' can invite frustration and a sense of failure for helpers and the people that we meet with. This workshop will look at the notion of 'self-esteem', explore different views on how the idea of 'self' develops, and closely examine the connections between 'low self-esteem' and other common descriptions of self (such as 'depressed', 'anxious', and 'angry'.)
Participants will learn:
- how to explore notions of self
- ways to map out inter-actions between problems and identity
- easy visual methods that will help untangle the effects of problems
- useful and effective strategies for undoing the effects of 'low self-esteem'.

Therapeutic In-Session Note Taking-April 26, 2012
What happens when people leave our consulting rooms? Often, the useful ideas and understandings that we develop together seem to disappear when the folks we meet with get back to their usual lives. Epston and White introduced the very helpful idea of the therapeutic letter, but often, helpers feel too busy to find the time to write such a letter.
This workshop will introduce a way of using note-taking to create a document that captures important and useful ideas from our meetings with people, for thier own use.
Participants will learn:
- how to big problems into managable components through mapping
- when and when not to use lists
- how to decide what to include and what to leave out
- how to translate in-session note taking into notes for the record
- many other uses for therapeutic in-session notes

Narrative Supervision Groups
They say that two heads are better than one.
When we work as helpers, it's important to have support, ideas, and a safe, confidential place to reflect on our skills and challenges as we work with people. It's equally important have supervision that does not undermine our confidence or leave us feeling at risk.
My approach is based on principles of Narrative supervision practices, reflective practice, skills of reflexivity and critical reflection, and deliberate practice.
Peer groups are conducted in a purposeful, structured way that accomodates diverse clinical modalities, and assures skill development for all participants.
Meetings one Wednesday per month, 5:30 to 8:00 pm
This group is now closed. A new group will begin in Fall 2012
